Notice period - information for property funds
With effect from 20 December 2007 a notice period was introduced on our property funds meaning we could delay certain transactions out of the funds for up to six months. This applies to anyone requesting surrenders, partial surrenders, new regular withdrawals (or changes to existing regular withdrawals) and switches or transfers out of the funds. This was introduced to be fair to all customers in the property funds, and to allow the fund manager time to raise adequate levels of cash within the fund.
A number of properties have since been sold to increase the cash in the fund and as this cash has become available, requests have been processed without any delay.
However, the notice period is to remain in place for the time being given the continued volatile nature of the property market; a decision we will keep under constant review. This means that we retain the right to delay new transactions by up to six months if we need to protect customers remaining in the property funds. If we are not able to process transactions upon receipt and there is to be a delay, you will be informed at that time.
There are a number of transactions where we will not enforce the notice period such as death claims, pensions policy benefits on retirement at the selected or normal retirement age, maturities, critical illness claims, lifestyle switches within pension contracts and existing regular withdrawals from investment bond products.

Suspend trading
Fund managers have the ability, in exceptional circumstances, to suspend trading in their funds for as long as necessary. When this occurs we will need to delay the 'cashing in' or switching of units in the relevant fund. You may not be able to access your money during this period
